Significance
Chandi Path is the ceremonial recitation of the Devi Mahatmya in honour of Chandi, the fierce and radiant form of the Goddess. Often expanded into the Chandi Havan, it is undertaken for the removal of grave difficulties, for victory over adversity, and for the protection of family and community. Its verses celebrate the Goddess as the power that upholds and renews all creation.
How it is performed
Bathe, take the sankalp, and prepare the altar and, if used, the havan kund.
Worship Ganesha, then perform the nyasa and invoke Chandi.
Recite the kavach, argala, and keelaka as the prelude.
Chant the chapters of the Devi Mahatmya with steady devotion.
For the havan, offer oblations with the verses of the recitation.
Offer red flowers, sindoor, and naivedya to the Goddess.
Complete the purnahuti, the aarti, and pushpanjali.
The mantra
Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Shakti Rupena Samsthita, Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah
To the Goddess who abides in all beings as power, salutations again and again and again to her.
