Ganesha
When to perform

Significance
Ganesha is Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, and is worshipped first before any undertaking or larger rite. His puja is kept at the start of ventures, at Ganesh Chaturthi, and on Wednesdays and Sankashti days. Devotees seek his blessing for wisdom, a clear beginning, and success in what they set out to do.
How it is performed
Bathe, purify the altar, and take the sankalp for the puja.
Install and invoke Ganesha upon the clean altar.
Offer water for the feet, then bathe the image and dress it.
Apply sandalwood and sindoor, and offer durva grass and red flowers.
Light incense and the lamp and offer modak as naivedya.
Chant the Ganesha mantra and recite his names or the Ganapati Atharvashirsha.
Conclude with camphor aarti and a prayer for an unobstructed path.
The mantra
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah
I bow to Ganapati, the lord of hosts and remover of obstacles.
