Hanuman Chalisa Path
हनुमान चालीसा पाठ · হনুমান চালিসা পাঠ
Devoted to Hanuman
Deity
Hanuman
When to perform
Tuesdays and Saturdays
Significance
The Hanuman Chalisa is Tulsidas's forty-verse hymn in praise of Hanuman, the devoted servant of Rama and the very form of strength and fearlessness. Devotees recite it, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays, for courage, protection from harm, and relief from the troubles attributed to Saturn. Simple to keep and needing little more than sincerity, it is among the most beloved daily practices in the household.
How it is performed
Bathe and sit facing the image of Hanuman on a clean seat.
Light the lamp and incense and take a brief sankalp.
Offer sindoor mixed with oil, a red garland, and flowers.
Recite the opening doha and then the forty verses of the Chalisa.
Repeat the recitation as vowed, keeping a steady, devout pace.
Offer laddu or jaggery as naivedya to Hanuman.
Close with the concluding doha and a short aarti.
The mantra
Manojavam Maruta Tulya Vegam Jitendriyam Buddhimatam Varishtham, Vatatmajam Vanara Yutha Mukhyam Shriramadutam Sharanam Prapadye
I take refuge in Hanuman, swift as thought and as the wind, master of the senses, foremost among the wise, son of the wind, chief of the vanaras, and messenger of Rama.
