Significance
Kaal Sarp Dosh is a horoscopic condition said to arise when all planets fall between Rahu and Ketu, believed to bring recurring obstacles and delay. This rite propitiates the serpent deities (Nagas) and seeks Shiva's grace to soften that influence. It is often kept at revered sites such as Trimbakeshwar, and combines Naga worship with the recitation of protective mantras.
How it is performed
Bathe, take the sankalp, and set up the altar with the Naga images and the Linga.
Worship Ganesha first for an unobstructed rite.
Bathe the Nagas and the Linga with milk and water.
Offer white flowers, black sesame, and sandalwood to the serpent deities.
Recite the Naga Gayatri and the Mahamrityunjaya mantra for protection.
Keep a havan with oblations for the Nagas where the tradition prescribes it.
Complete with aarti and, by custom, the release or immersion of the Naga images.
